Turn to us when you need help with rural IT services & support.

Bruce grew up on family farms outside of Baralaba, experiencing firsthand the communication obstacles that rural life can bring—a perspective he carries into his work at Kerr Solutions. To properly service our extensive rural customer base, we have the experience and the solutions to keep your computers in check. Unless your farm is on the extreme edge of a major town and can get Fibre To The Premise (FTTP), every farm should now be on a Starlink system, directly through Starlink and not through Telstra.

Rural IT in Rockhampton, Queensland

Once this is the case, all family farms and even large rural enterprises can be fully supported from our Kerr Rescue software direct across the Internet from our service base in Rockhampton, Queensland. When we set up new desktops and laptops, they are de-cluttered and simplified to maximise their useability, durability, and simplicity. We only sell commercial grade devices, and every device has our signature Standard Operating Environment (SOE), which is 13 pages of fine print detailing tweaks and configurations that our techs meticulously follow to make sure your computer is a useful tool and not a hindrance.

It is this attention to detail along with over 30-years of experience, with tried and tested systems like our “Recipe For Safe Business Computing” that sets us apart from an ordinary computer shop. Even our Starlink Extender Kits are extensively programmed, tested, and labelled before being sent out for installation.

Our Rural IT Services & Support Includes:

• Sales and Support: We prioritise providing only the highest-quality equipment and trusted products that fit your specific needs. As a local, independent IT company, we’re not bound to push products based on manufacturers incentives. Instead, we focus on equipment we use ourselves, know and trust—building long-term relationships with customers who rely on us for IT advice, supply, and support. Since 1998, we’ve served rural Queenslanders with integrity, ensuring that each interaction adds value and peace of mind.

• Internet Solutions: We provide trusted advice on a range of internet solutions, including the highly recommended Starlink service. While we don’t sell Starlink directly, we help rural customers deploy it, across large houses, or externally to other buildings such as extra houses, machinery sheds, workers cottages, dongas, caravans or even large areas such as cattle yards, or the frequently traversed areas around the house and sheds. With our guidance, you can achieve dependable connectivity, no matter how remote your property, keeping you connected when it matters most.

• Spread Your Starlink Around: Most farm buildings are too far apart for traditional cabling. Our microwave link solutions provide a powerful wireless bridge, creating a stable connection between farmhouses, workers’ quarters, sheds, and offices—all from a single Starlink Internet connection. This approach allows for:

    • High-speed File Transfers: Transfer files effortlessly between buildings.
    • Shared Resources: Share printers and storage devices across the property.
    • Enhanced Security: Add surveillance cameras and monitor all locations from one central device.
    • Remote Access: Check on the farm activities remotely from your phone or a PC while on holiday or from another location.

• Power Protection: With many of our customers on SWER power connections, rural power conditions can be unpredictable, and generators can wreak havoc on sensitive electronics. We pioneered power protection solutions in Central Queensland to ensure your equipment is safe and functional. Our UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems are essential for critical equipment on farms, piggeries, dairies, and other rural IT applications, ensuring uninterrupted operations even in challenging conditions.

• Specialised Software Support: We understand the specific software needs of rural customers, even if they’re outside standard office programs. Our technicians frequently set up rural IT and support rural software, including:

    • Phoenix Accounting Software / Aglive Cattle Management Programs
    • ABRI HerdMASTER / NLIS Readers
    • Ruddweigh Cattle Scales / Gallagher Electric Fencing Units
    • Mixing and Batching Process Controllers
    • Caterpillar Electronic Technician & Detroit Engine Management software
    • John Deere Tractor & Allison Transmission Software

We provide complete software installation, firmware updates, IP configuration, and backup solutions for these critical systems. Our goal is to keep your equipment working seamlessly and ensure your data is always secure.

• Backup Systems: Data loss is all too common, but it’s entirely preventable with the right backup solution. We offer Microsoft 365 cloud-based systems and / or easy-to-use onsite backup systems that take only seconds to complete, allowing you to verify and retrieve your data without hassle. We know the devastation of data loss and are committed to providing a solution that prevents this from happening to you.

Special Note:

Spreading further West like a disease, farms are increasingly becoming the target of filthy opportunists that prey on the fact that you are not always home, and often have a comprehensive mechanical / engineering workshop, firearms, quads, motorbikes and bulk fuel supplies. These thieving scum turn up unannounced on the pretence of asking for directions and hope to find no one home!

Our tips to help farm security are –

  • Have a locked front gate – or electronic gate that is normally closed
  • Have visible cameras in place at the front gate and on your sheds – monitoring any particular bottlenecks such as the grid to a house yard (we are experts in this field).
  • Have electronic surveillance signs posted at several spots, including the front gate.
  • Have some clearly displayed, laminated A4 printouts at the front gate with a map of where your front gate is in relation to the nearest town, fuel station, camping grounds, and police station with distances marked. List the phone numbers of the local police station & ambulance. This gives them no reason to drop in unannounced “looking for directions”.
  • Have your email address on this map, in case they are a salesperson trying to pedal offerings and emphasise the fact that they will get no audience if they just turn up. Rather, a salesperson can email you and ask permission to visit at a known time.
  • With all the above steps in place, you then have a right to treat any unannounced visitors as suspicious and a potential threat.
